The promenade proposed for Gualdo Cattaneo is linked to its territory which spread to North West: a beautiful hardwood forest that covers much of the communal land. In fact the name of Gualdo derives from Wald = Selva to which was added Cattaneo. The medieval castle was in fact founded around 1000 by Count Edoardo Cattaneo vassal of the Emperor Otto II of Saxony. The departure is from Piazza Umberto I (446 mt.). When you stay here it is possible notice the majestic cylindrical tower that overlooks the square and which is the symbol of Gualdo Cattaneo. The tower was built by Pope Alexander VI in 1494. Go down via Edoardo Cattaneo up via della Circonvallazione: take the right. Hand After 200 meters at the cross road go on the left and immediately turn on the right into Via del Monte. Climb 200 meters take on the left in via Colventoso. Go up to 1.6 kilometers the asphalted and unpaved road. Cross SP 409: go on the left (518 meters). The next km allows us to enjoy the ridge which divides the valleys of Puglia river on the west and Attone river on the east. Go along the SP 409 for 3 km and then climb on the left to the Sanctuary of Madonna della Valle (582 m). This site is a historical architectural emergency, but especially a place of Marian veneration much felt in the territory. Go back on the road for 200 mt above: take the path on the right passed the fence. Climb for 500 meters up to the ruins of Madonna del Monte (686 m) Take the path down on the right. Take the road around Colle Martino for 1.2 km. Where the forest thins out take the path on the right (be careful here!) And get off along the downhill at Caccialepri (489 mt). Reach the next T-junction, turn on the left. Access to the up and down in the woods for 1.6 kilometers to a Y intersection go on the left. Go on for another 1.5 km until you pass through olive grove village Collelino cross the little wood up to a T intersection, turn on the right. We are in Via Colventoso. Run in the opposite direction towards Gualdo Cattaneo.
